Parnassos Ski Centre - Master Plan and Business Plan

Arachova, Greece

* Note: This project was executed by current CCS employee Victor Costa as Project Manager, under previous employment by Ecosign Europa GmbH. This is a personal reference and should not be read as a company-wide reference.

In the late 2000s, Parnassos was the largest ski area of Greece, barely 2 hours drive away from Athens, but faced major structural issues with excessive inefficient lifts and insufficient access capacity. When first contacted, the resort´s intention was to add yet small installation, but upon site inspection, it became obvious that the resort had a great potential for optimization and re-development, to turn itself into a modern, efficient ski resort capable to attract additional guests and offer them a great experience.

Our now Project Manager Victor Costa led the development of the Master Plan for the resort between 2008 - 2010 and coordinated the production of the business plan for the investments to follow. The plan saw the replacement of some old lifts through modern and efficient ones, in some cases with modified terminal stations to improve passenger flows, a new balance of infrastructures, reducing early morning staging time to the slopes, but also creating a network that allows the extreme amount of pedestrians and day non-skier guests (over 30% of tickets before implementation) to reach the very top of the mountain and enjoy the views and the snow (areas not accessible before on foot), and the creation of a beginner area in a sunny yet snow-safe location.

Within less than 8 years after completion of the Master Plan, Parnassos has already executed the Master Plan to almost its entirety and it is boasting now the most modern ski infrastructure in the country, both skier and pedestrian friendly, and an improved network of pistes.
